Mr N. Jones (Class Teacher)

Mrs R. Riley (HLTA - mornings and PPA Cover Tuesday afternoon)

Newsletter - Apr 19 : Adobe Acrobat file (404.2k)
Class Timetable : Adobe Acrobat file (289.3k)

Homework this year is reading and times tables based.

As well as reading daily, at home, EVERY night, we want you to challenge your children to read different texts each week. Here are some suggestions:

  • recipes
  • magazine articles
  • newspaper reports
  • an online blog
  • a menu from a restaurant
  • a leaflet from a place of interest
  • a letter
  • an information book
  • a novel of their choice

When they do read something different please write about it in the home/school record and encourage your child to tell me about it.

Times Tables - We want to encourage the children to learn all their times tables as they underpin so much of the Mathematics curriculum. You can use the websites below or alternatively you can write them down and learn them them that way.

Sometimes your child will be given Topic homework, to enthuse them and enable them to complete more independent learning tasks.

Please encourage your child to take ownership of their home learning and try to adopt a good work ethic at home.

Please sign the homework diary every night to show the reading that has taken please and use the diary as communication of how they are getting on.

Many thanks

Peter Thorpe Art

Year 5 have been accumulating different art skills this half term in order to create their own Peter Thorpe inspired art. This is the result:

This half term has seen us really embrace our PE skills. We began the half term we coaching lessons in Hi-5 Netball. These skills have prepared us well for our upcoming tournament. Pictures will follow.

Towards the second half of the term has seen us begin to learn the skills needed to play Tag Rugby. This is going really well and we are enjoyed the coaches lessons.

Autumn 2

The children have continued looking at the Victorian Era, with art being a main focus! We looked at William Morris and reproduced our own printing template to create some printing art work.

They looked so good we made them into calendars for 2019!

In Science we have looked at materials and their properities; we conducted an investigation on ice, with some interesting results.

The end of the half term saw us meet our new teacher for January, Mr Jones and practise for the Carol Concert.

It busy half term had by all!

Castlerigg Advent Day!

Year 5 and 6 had the delight of spending the day with Castlerigg to learn all about Advent.

It was such a great day and Sister and her friends kept us all enthralled for the full day!

Beautiful reponses and reflections were made by the Whole of Upper KS2.

A fabulous day had by all.

Christmas Art Week

Helen, an artist, spent the whole morning in Year 5 to make amazing Christmas Lanterns.

The children listened extremely well to instructions and worked very hard on decorating their lanterns.

Very impressed and proud of their success!

Hugh well done Year 5!
