Welcome to Year 1|
Welcome to the Year One class page!
Miss Griffiths and the Year One Team are happy to be back and excited for the challenges that lay ahead this term.
Important information about our class
Reading - Each child has been given a reading record with a sticker on the front stating the day that Miss Griffiths will hear them read and assess their comprehension skills. Targeted phonics will also be monitored on your child's stated reading day.
Please try and listen to you child read at least three times per week before dating and signing in their reading record.
Writing - Your child will be learning to write using a precursive handwiritng style. Please encourage your child to write as much as they can at home. If you would like a copy of our school's handwriting style, then please ask when dropping off/collecting or through your Class Dojo page.
Maths - In Year One, an essential aspect of our initial learning in maths is counting forwards and backwards from 1 to 100. Any opportunity to practise this skill at home would be very beneficial to your child. We are also focusing on the value of numbers and how they are represented.

Creative Arts Weeks|
Year One have been exploring apples using lots of different media.
They then looked at wallpaper designs by William Morris.
He used lots of different plants and fruit in his designs.
Using apples as their starting point they created their own design which they had to transfer onto a polystyrene tile.
They applied paint to the tiles using rollers and printed these onto paper.
